Create a Custom Facebook Page

Recently facebook rolled out timeline view for facebook fan pages. Now you can add cover photo, highlight any post by pinning them. Even fans can send direct message to the admin. By default facebook fan page has some tabs like photos, videos, likes etc.

What if you want to add your own custom tab?
What do you need to create a custom facebook page tab?


To create a custom facebook page tab  first we need to find a place to  host images, html, css & java script for our web pages. Using google sites you can easily host our web pages and it's free. Google sites offers secure browsing this helps because many facebook users turned on secure browsing.


How to create facebook page tab?

1. Go to google sites give a unique url to your site. Select a blank template and click on create site. Now under site settings set width 100% and disable remaining  options.

2. Create new page, an editor will appear then add content that page. You can add images, gadgets, tables, maps and even your own html code too. 

3. Now go to facebook developers page and click on apps tab. If this is your first facebook app click on go to app.Click on create new app, give your app a unique name.


4. Expand the page tab under basic settings. Copy your google site page url in page tab url and secure page tab url. In first copy http url and in other https url. Upload a thumbnail image with your tab name. It should be 111x74 pixels.

5. Our facebook app is ready. Now we should add this tab to our facebook fan page. Copy the app id and replace xyz in the following url with the app id. Then copy the link open the url in your browser.  Then select the page to which you want to add the custom tab.

6. If you want to change the tab just change the corresponding google site page.
