Recently facebook has announced it will be acquiring instagram  for 1 billion dollars. It's just a mobile app, what made instagram a billion dollars worth app?

instagram is a free photo sharing app that let's users take pics from mobile phones, apply an optional digital filter and share it with their friends via facebook or twitter or instagram's own social network.
